Born out of friendly space matter, Planet Creature's molecules first collided a few years ago when this ragtag group of friends began jamming in peoples’ apartments on mainly borrowed instruments. Seemingly 90% of Toronto’s female musicians have passed through the group since (jesus, what’s wrong with these ladies?) ‘Das Pirates’ comes from their debut EP The Pigeon, which has been followed by their 2012 album You're On Planet Creature, with another one on the way.
You’re on Planet Creature is available on cassette and limited to a run of 200 copies. Every purchase comes with a download card for your digital needs. Even better? Each band member created their own cover art – so if there’s a particular cover or Creature you like please indicate in your order.
The band's first full-length LP is a bit of a departure with less emphasis on country twang and more on a bolder, aggressive sound.
The bulk of You're On Planet Creature was recorded and engineered in a friend’s secluded and tranquil Lake Joseph cottage in the late Spring 2011 by Barry Weatherhead (Lipstick Machine, Blooming Rosebuds) and Graeme Rose (Rival Boys). Mixing and mastering was completed by Adam Seward of popular Toronto band Rituals in his home studio over the Fall/Winter of 2011.

The Pigeon EP is available on CD and, like most Optical Sounds releases only a handful of copies remain due to a limited run at pressing.
The 6 tracks that make up this EP showcase the band at its earliest stages and with a slightly different lineup than the one currently working on their next release. Despite that, this is definitely a release to be celebrated for its underdog approach and DIY doggedness that is synonymous with all bands on the Optical Sounds label.
This EP proves that these 5 girls know the tonic and are on their way to even greater success. Songs like Das Pirates and Dust Babies are fixtures of their live shows to this day.
